As I
wander in search of a subject, my mind is exploring ideas about Found Art,
Appropriation, and Charles Eames’ philosophy that “an image can be an idea.”
There is wonderful solitude to be found combing through the humdrum of
everyday land and cityscapes.
Seeing
through the camera as a child would – imagining without restrictions, inhibition
or planning. I like to think I am “Edward Scissorhands” with camera. My
challenge is to transcend the subject’s objective impact, or lack thereof, and
produce a new visual burst of wonder that may spark the imagination. The goal is
to reward viewers with a shared experience of discovery. If I’m successful, the
proverbial “one man’s junk” does indeed become another’s treasure.
My work
is a dream journey of abstract photographs that suggest connections between
randomness, and the disciplined constraints found in cities unique juxtaposition
of urban sprawl and dramatic natural backdrop. It is my hope that the viewer
will enjoy and engage in a fun, interpretive conversation about my approach to
visual arts.
