Bio
It is
often said that Los Angeles is the world capitol of self-reinvention. That
truism particularly applies to local artists, who often face a shifting
landscape of personal and cultural footholds. For those who are truly grounded,
this can serve as both catalyst and challenge, wherever they roam. Born and
raised in East LA, Pamela Davis experienced a series of family relocations, from
Santa Monica to Pasadena to Boston before returning as an Art major at CA State
Long Beach.
Naturally
skilled as a sketch artist, Davis received valuable mentoring in visual arts
from former Bauhaus resident and Cal Arts instructor Hans Proppe, and in graphic
design communication from Otis Art Institute chair Sheila Levrant de Bretteville.
As Curator of Circle Gallery in Culver City, she learned the business side of
organizing and promoting art.
The
sudden intervention of a serious automobile accident prompted a rethinking of
career and financial priorities, and Davis applied her studies towards a BA in
Management from the University of Portland. She has since held administrative
positions at a Manhattan mail order catalog agency and MOCA, followed by the
creation of her own web-based office support company in Downtown LA.
Davis has
been published in the Pasadena Star News and Pasadena Weekly, and was awarded
Honorable Mention in the 2004 International Photography Awards. She has
exhibited at Pomona’s Millard Sheets Gallery, Pasadena Art Walk, and One
Colorado, and is currently in the process of launching 10x10, a small (!)
gallery in the Arroyo Seco community of Hermon.
